I have been reading and commenting on articles and seeds about the Sandy Hook massacre. I have seen every and anything get blamed for the incident, and heard all the arguments for and against each one. Yet, each time that I bring up the " elephant" in the room, the debate breaks down, and I am either ignored or the total debate stops. What is being ignored is the racial aspects of this event and events very much like it. These crimes are overwhelmingly being enacted by young, white males.

I expect that many will rebut with the standard script of how many Black on Black crimes are attributed to gun usage, and somebody will quote the crime and murder statistics for Chicago. These are real issues that must be dealt with, and corrected, but they have very little to do with mass murder events such as Sandy Hook. A drug dealer, killing another drug dealer is not a gun man walking into a movie theatre and gunning down an audience.

Let us break down the main suspects being blamed for Sandy Hook, which I also believe play a major factor in these events happening, but are not the only reasons:

1) Gun control: Yes the access to assault rifles is a considerable factor, but there is not a racial restriction for the purchase of these weapons. There are a rainbow of diversity of gun owners who own, operate, and purchase these very weapons. Why then are only these young, white males utilizing them for these mass murder events. Here, inevitably, some one will mention the DC sniper, which was not a mass murder, but a multiple murder. John Allen Muhammad, would have been considered the most qualified gun owner, being ex-military, with an Expert Rifleman badge. Preventing him from purchasing an assault rifle would have caused the NRA fits.

2) Mental Health care: The state of the Mental health system in America is disgraceful. Yes, changes must be made! Assistance for families dealing with disabled, or mentally ill children needs to be reviewed and reinforced. Autism is not racially limited, and can effect all races. Most mental health disorders are not racially biased, or racially hereditary, and are equal opportunity afflictions. So why are mentally ill young, white males, so prone towards attempting and executing mass murder events, such as Sandy Hook? Demographically, there are more white people in America, and therefore a much higher level of mentally ill or mentally disabled people within the population will be white. There based upon demographics alone, there should be a proportional number of mass murders done by other races or ethnicities. So far, I have only found one that was done done by a young, white male, and that was Virginia Tech.

3) Violent Movies and Video Games: This is a part of the American culture. I personally do not believe that violent media has changed much in it's content, since the advent of movies and TV. If you are old enough to remember the old westerns, and war movies that were just as violent and ill considerate of human life, as the movies of today. Gunsmoke, which was one of my father's favorite shows, killed somebody, with a gun, on almost every episode. The violence in today's media is saturated, much more graphic and much more readily available. I cannot find that much of a fundamental difference between kids playing cowboys and Indians all day, and kids playing Black ops all day, except that one was done outside. The effects of the media are also not racially biased, and no one race or ethnicity has the monopoly on kids playing violent video games, or watching violent movies. So why do young, white males have the monopoly on these mass murder events?

There is a common factor for all of the attempts to rationalized and lay blame upon the how and why of these events, and it is being ignored. Why are we avoiding the issue? The last thing I am advocating is the immediate labelling of young white males as all being potential mass murders. That would be just as ridiculous as labeling all young, black males as gang members. Does that mean that we ignore the common factors of all these events? There is a reason that the the DC sniper was originally profiled as a lone, older, ex-military, white male, because the history of those that had committed that type of crime, had the majority of those factors in common.
