It started when the POTUS, placed VP Joe Biden in charge of putting together a gun control response, after the Sandy Hook debacle. Now, I am old enough to remember that then Senator Biden had a hand in several pieces of gun control legislation, and most of the Right see him as anti-gun. Note that Joe is a gun owner, and a hunter, in his past and present. With the POTUS's announcement, I began to form a theory about the future of the VP.
1) The President gave him a very important job, to highlight his past experiences and to bring him back into the limelight for a potential run for president in 4 years? Or, he was giving a high profile policy issue, that will make him extremely unpopular with middle America and the NRA, and smudge him early with those independent voters that are so important to win an election now?
I was working on figuring that one out, when this fiscal cliff debacle came into play. When Biden was called in at the very last minutes to negotiate a deal, and Senator McConnell refused to negotiate with anybody except Joe Biden. I had another theory.
2) The republicans want to pump up and shine a light on the VP Joe Biden, because they know that they could not get a republican to win the white house in 4 years. The last thing they want is a President Hilary Clinton. Joe Biden becomes the lesser of two evils. As it is right now, the GOP has no front runner that would have a possible chance in hell, except maybe Jeb Bush. Jeb will not run, because it is to soon for another Bush, and he would poison the pool for his son, Jorge Bush who is just getting into politics. I think that Joe Biden, to the GOP, is the only chance they have, to get a white man back in charge of the White House.
What do you think? What is your theory? Why is a VP, whose last 4 years has been highlighted with gaffe after gaffe, has been suddenly pushed into a prominent leadership role? I have even noticed that Fox News has even begun soft pedalling backwards on the " Idiot " VP. His wife has gotten more positive press in the last 4 years.
